BIOTELEKINESY (FP7-PEOPLE)

The core of the BIOTELEKINESY project was to provide an innovative ICT based interface with a holistic approach to detect and prevent as earlier as possible in the daily environment of the elderly person, motion disabilities and as a consequence fall risks. It consists of monitoring and assessing devices, to gather biomechanics data that can be indicators of locomotion impairments, related to a secure interoperability system that connect the older person, the healthcare providers and the family in order to implement appropriate rehabilitation therapies.

CARE – Safe Private Homes for Elderly Persons (AAL)

CareLogoThe CARE project targeted the automated recognition and alarming of critical situations (like fall detection) using a visual sensor and real-time processing while preserving the privacy and taking into account system dependability issues (reliability, availability, security, and safety). A biologically-inspired neuromorphic vision sensor from AIT was integrated in the Everon (alarm, security, and monitoring) system for seamless analysis and tracking of older people at home. This real-time information can be exploited for incident detection (e.g., fall detection) and an instantaneous alarm.

CONFIDENCE – Ubiquitous Care System to Support Independent Living (FP7-ICT)

The main objective of the Confidence project was the development and integration of different ICT technologies for the detection of abnormal events, such as falls, losses of consciousness or unexpected behaviours in older people. The main exploitable product of the project is a system that processes location and acceleration data generated by an arbitrary accurate sensor system. If a problem is detected, the system raises an alarm and calls to the telephone numbers that the user has identified as alarm receivers. This system can be further enhanced so that it can also be used for prevention of possible illnesses.

Ageing Well Thematic Network

Ageing Well LogoThe AgeingWell website is a reference point for key stakeholders in the ICT & Ageing Sector. It aims at creating a Community of Actors interested in improving the life of older persons by promoting the market uptake of ICT solutions for Ageing Well. To achieve its aim, the following five main objectives of the AgeingWell project are to develop Guidelines for deployment and sharing of best practice between key competence centres; build an ICT for Ageing Knowledge Centre with the aim to share relevant information and results with the AgeingWell Community; develop an ICT for Ageing Society Strategic Agenda, with the aim of providing a study on options for future structure and implementation of EU innovation funding; promote the European innovation reinforcement between innovative ICT & Ageing enterprises (in particular SMEs) and the Investment Community and raise awareness within the European community of ICT & Ageing stakeholders.

EUNESE (DG Sanco)

EUNESE

The EUNESE project involved over 30 partners representing 23 different EU countries and aimed to reduce injuries among senior citizens. A best practices policy manual and commonly acceptable information materials were developed as well as the implementation of pilot projects to enhance safety, reduce injuries and promote health among senior citizens in the EU.

AMACS – Automatic monitoring of Actitiviies of Daily Living using Contactless Sensors (FP7 ERA-NET)

AMACSBased on this automatic detection of activities of daily living (ADL), the AMACS project aims to detect changes in the behavior, i.e. changes in these ADL patterns. These changes include both acute and gradual changes. The information about these activities and changes in behavior can then be presented to the caregivers (including family members) to adapt older people’s care plans, and as a consequence, increase their quality of care and quality of life. Hence allowing them to stay longer at their homes.

FallWatch (FP7-SME)

FallWatch
FallWatch‘s objective was to miniaturize a wearable fall detection system for the elderly developed by Vigilio S.A. in collaboration with the University Joseph Fourier (Grenoble) under the brand Vigi’Fall TM.  Convinced that innovative embedded devices for the monitoring of healthcare parameters would enhance safety and well-being of the frailest, the project developed a reliable telemedical solution for public and private home care facilities. In addition, the project provided technology insertion and consultancy services to commercial and industrial customers around the world.

ProFaNE – Prevention of Falls Network Europe (FP5)

Prevention of Falls Network Europe (ProFaNE) was set up as a thematic network with 25 partners focusing on the issue of prevention of falls and improvement of postural stability amongst elderly people. ProFaNE comprised 4 workpackages (Taxonomy and Classification; Clinical Assessment and Management; Assessment of Balance; Psychological Aspects of Falling), to focus on a series of tasks required to develop multi-factorial prevention programmes aimed at reducing the incidence of falls and fractures amongst elderly people. A highly successful network, producing many research papers, and had 4000 members across the world by the end of its funding.

FARSEEING – FAll Repository for the design of Smart and sElf-adaptive Environments prolonging INdependent living (FP7-ICT)

Farseeing
FARSEEING aims to promote better prediction, prevention and support of older persons, by long-term analysis of behavioural and physiological data collected using Smartphones, wearable and environmental sensors: leading to self-adaptive responses. FARSEEING aims to build the world’s largest fall repository of real life falls data.

Started: January 2012.

ROSETTA – Guidance and Awareness Services for Independent Living (AAL)

Rosetta LogoROSETTA focused on the prevention, early detection and efficient management of treatable psychosocial and physical consequences of chronic diseases that are accompanied by progressive cognitive decline and an increased risk of straying and falling during the advanced stages of the disease. The functionalities of the ROSETTA system were to monitor activities of elderly persons with sensors, generate an alarm when unexpected/deviant (in) activity are predicted or detected (for example a fall), generate warnings when longer term deviations from normal personal behaviour were detected and support the elderly in carrying out daily and recreational activities.

The project was completed May 2012
